本题做错的三个原因 1. the first trenches cut into a 500--- 没有把cut想成是v+ed修饰trenches 2. were rising，过去进行时表示过去的那个动作一直在发生，不知道结束饿了没有，没有arose好 3. complex societies arose simultaneously with the more celebrated city-states 这个没有读出来，如果没有with的话，就说不通了

having been cut可以用cut代替。 这里不需要强调trenches被cut后的影响，只要该遗址挖掘出来就可以得到考古证据，而不需要be cut into a 500-acre site。 并且这个cut的动作不可能从过去到现在一直持续。
