其实such as Bethlehem Steel是个插入语，that引导的是companies的同位语从句。 如果没有that,后面句子是形容Bethlehem Steel。 可是读下去，我们看到了HAVE greatly downsized。所以不能是单数的BS。

1. as作连词：由于...，所以这里as引导的从句是对于前面主句的一个解释说明。 2. such as BS作为一个插入语，that 从句修饰companies，conducted作为that从句中的谓语，have 为as 从句中companies的谓语。 这样语法和逻辑意思都通顺了。
