(1)V-ing表示伴随状语时，其逻辑主语必是主句主语，即主语主语能够发出V-ing的动作，且V-ing动作发生在主句动作发生的过程内； (2)V-ing表示结果状语时，其没有单纯的逻辑主语，造成V-ing动作的原因是整个主句主谓描述的内容； 这里发生人数double时间肯定不包含在rose时间内，应该再rose之后，因为1990年的人数是逐渐rose,最终到年底才发现原来这一整年的人数是前一年人数的double. 所以这里属于第2种情况，那么doubling修饰的应该是前面整句话表达的意思，就是the number of people ..rose.., 因此这里和比较the increase of ..对等 自己错选A的原因： 认为doubling的伴随状语，逻辑主语是the number。 因而，认为the number of people （1990年坐头等舱的人数）不能和1989年坐头等舱增加的人数 相比较。

Twice as many as 是同位语，…, as many as … 中as many as 只能修饰逗号前面紧挨着的那个名词，所以DE排除 Rose/double是两个谓语动词，这里需要doubling来修饰整个句子，C排除。 The increase in X 表示X本身的增加。所以Increase in the previous year中，the previous year增加是说不通的，B错。 The increase of TIME PERIOD 表示在这个时间段内增加的内容 B中的that也有错误。That 指代the number of people？ 那of就多余了。
