Manhattan里特别有讲，In addition to A，B的结构比较特殊... A、B不需要遵循平行结构，作\"除...之外\"的意思，后面可以加different noun。
例句：
In addition to taxes, death is inevitable.
In addition to Munster cheese, I like Swiss.

例句二中，前面是物，主句主语是人。

所以这道题用平行结构排除是不正确的，C、D的区别主要还是在with和include上。

但是主句的主语B，在逻辑上还是要跟in additon to A中的A是一致的。Manhattan论坛上的解释：The opening phrase is talking about her work and saying "in addition to" her work on the fossil record - so we need to say what it is that is referring to this work. Her work on the fossil record was one of her contributions, just as her discovery of hominid activity was one of her contributions.

in addition to句子里的代词用的是her而不是she
her本来指代的就应该是所有格，与D、E中的Leakey's形合意合，所以A\\B\\C要首先排除掉

ABC和DE的差别也在于SVO强调的句意重点：
ABC: Leakey contributed to archaeology
DE: Leakey's contributions to archaeology include x,x,and x.
Initial modifier都说了 her work on the Miocene hominid fossil record, 后面也应该是着重介绍她的工作内容吧。
ABC 说了人怎么样，把工作都放修饰语了，我觉得比较差啦嘻嘻

你这个解释也不对 http://gmat.kmf.com/question/f7ak3h.html 这道题，把A和D的documentation 和 documenting换一下，答案就变成A了

看了下解释都不太对，我来说下把，painstakingly documenting，如果documenting是个动名词，那这个结构是错误的，副词不可以修饰动名词，如果documenting是个现在分词，那and前面平行的一定要出现be动词，而A前面是个contributed。用这个逻辑可以排除AB

In addition to A, B xx 结构里, B 没必要和A平行, 但真正平行的部分是 her work, discovery, 和documentation, in addition只是把其中一个部分提前, 改成熟悉的句子结构是 ML’s contributions to xx INCLUDE her [discovery] of xxx, her [painstaking documentation] of xxx, and her [work] on xx. 或者是ML CONTRIBUTED to archaeology with her [discovery] of xxx, her [painstaking documentation] of xxx, and her [work] on xx. 且不管是哪种表达, 侧重点都应该是contribution, 所以C不对

That\'s the major issue. The other item is that modifiers are a bit more confusing in C:
Leakey was a contributor (to X) (with Y & Z).
Is the second modifier modifying the first modifier or the clause? Not as clear as:
Leakey\'s contributions (to X) include Y & Z.

在这道题里，AB的错误在于discovery和documentation的平行，AB没有做到，所以不选；而在那道类似的题里，只有A做到了平行。

这道题C不能选的原因是强调错误，C强调她是contributor，但是重心不在这里，在于她贡献了什么。

至于In addition to的用法，我承认我觉得这个是挺玄学的，至少我拿不准，所以我采取了了比较有把握的排除办法---and的平行使用。

Manhattan SC: The phrase in addition to is worth mentioning. At the beginning of a sentence, you can use this construction to add another example to the subject. You can also use it to add another example to a different noun in the sentence, such as the object of the verb or some other noun: IN ADDITION TO taxes, death is inevitable.\\ IN ADDITION TO Munster cheese, I like Swiss.

D 选项是正确答案？？可是D 选择中没有Leakey，只出现了一次Leakey‘s ,句中多次有her，可以这样指代吗？不是说代词只能指代出现过的名词吗

像这种所有格形式的，是可以用her，his，its，their 等指代的，但是却不能用she，he／him，it等指代

我觉得看到in addition to her work on the Miocene hominid fossil record,就要考虑主句的主语能不能接上in addition to后面的部分，如果主语是人，我觉得人不能和 her work并列，只有 人的贡献可以和her work并列，但是这只是我个人的想法

omg,单词不过关啊！把painstaking当成painstake 的变形。。然而其实并没有painstake这个动词。。。。选了E，其实painstaking documentation 是名词！！

严格的平行结构要求前后主语完全平行 unlike tom,i like cheese.前后是主语人比较；in addition to不要求前后结构上主语完全平行，但是要求逻辑一致 in addition to fish，i like cheese 前后cheese和fish都是i like的，逻辑合理即可。而文中的her work和discovery、documentation一样都属于contribution，所以逻辑一致

选对但是对D存疑： 在 in addition to her... 的句式之后不应该要出现一个对应her的人称名词吗？ 出现的是人的所有格，这样对应可行吗？这样是不是稍微有her代指 M's contribution的歧义？
