补充一点，相比于like而言，as强调前后句中动作的比较。题目中想表达的也是水果的呼吸同人类的互相相同，所以用as再恰当不过了

考察比较中的修饰
ABC，句子后面similar to/ like只能就近修饰前面的名词，不能修饰整个句子，所以都不对
D as后面加了名词不表示比较，错
E 正确，as后面加了句子，可以表示比较。
技巧：as+句子的比较，是指句子和句子的比较，也就是2件事情的比较，这往往是优选的句子结构

A 是A do像 the way 比较对象不一致
B 的意思是A do 像 B 比较对象不一致
C like 排除
D as B DO!要补充出来 = as do B

回复猪猪加油可以的: similar放在carbon dioxide后边，修饰了carbon dioxide。
(co2) similar to (the way), 错误。

C的like不是就近对比！！当\",like\"处于句尾时格外小心，因为这时like指向前句的主语。Ie：像那些水果一样，它们还会吸入氧气吐出二氧化碳。而原本的对比应该是人类呼吸和吸氧气吐二氧化碳比而不是和水果比。这是句意问题。

句型就要一致：
it continues for some time to respire,
it +verb +状语
human beings do when +状语
