不是说GMAT里这个ALSO不能省略，一省会造成转折的歧义了吗。怎么现在有能省了。这到底有准没准了还？

曼哈顿的IDIOM部分，not only...but是属于Suspect的，就是有not only...but also比相同情况下not only...but好，但是后者也不是不可接受；相同情况还有not only ... but ...as well和... and also ...。不可接受的是not only … and also和not only ... but as well...。

also或者but在真题中都有省略的例子。能省的！
（1）not only … but …(通常用在当第二部分只是强调第一部分！)
(2) not only … also…也是是常有的

嗯 谢谢 我昨天看了ron的帖子（其实那个帖子自己看过好几次了 感觉之前都一知半解的）。的的确确是 not ...but。为主要结构 主要有not only...but also表示两个不同方面的互相补充但是相互独立的。not only....but则表示两个东西相互补充 但是but后面的是not only前面的进一步说明；not..but就是单纯的前面是一个假设或者猜想，第二个是一个反驳或者事实- -总算在此个时刻点高清了- -也不知道能记住多久。还有一个是not only在句首引起倒装，（but） it/he /she诸如此类（also），这个括号里是可以省略的。这个我是在网上搜到的一个总结。

来自Ron——the MOST reliable way to deconstruct this idiom is just to memorize "not ... but ...", and then ignore the adjectives "only" and "also" in deciding whether structures are grammatically parallel.
in deciding the MEANING of the structure, you can't dismiss "only" and "also" ... but that's a sep

这乱码也是狂了，ron的意思是说，如果看平行就看 not……but……（忽略only或者also） 后面的成分要绝对平行！！但是看意思就要放一起看，not only ……but also、not only … but 、not only … also…都是递进的，要好全都好，要坏全都坏，而not…… but……but后面是反驳not后面的内容的。

自问自答。。ron的解释
if you have a two-part parallel construction - such as "not only ... but also" - your detection of parallelism (or lack thereof) should be COMPLETELY mechanical. just look at the words that follow the first part, and look at the words that follow the second part (and DON'T ignore any words). if they don't have the same grammatical structure, then the parallelism is faulty. end of story.choice (a):
not only were able to transform the gas into a solid, but they also created
the blue parts aren't parallel, because there's a subject in the second part but not in the first. and you are not, not, NOT allowed to ignore "they" in the second part.
and because "scientists" comes before "not only", you must ignore it.

not only。。。。but also有很多变形比如not only...but...as well你做的题多了就会发现的。这些题没有什么好的办法只能通过排除其他的选线做对
